Chewy S'more-like Bars
From Aunt Joan Bartholomew, Dallas, Texas 1991

Ingredients
  

  • 15 rectangles (1 ¼ – 1 ½ cups) graham crackers, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup shredded coconut

Instructions
 

  • Thoroughly combine baking soda with graham cracker crumbs.
  • Add vanilla and milk and mix together; stir in coconut.
  • Pour into greased 9×13" pan; sprinkle chocolate chips evenly on top.
  • Bake at 350ºF for 20 minutes.
  • Cool completely.  Cut into 1″ squares and roll in powdered sugar.

Notes

Makes 36 bars.
Use 1 ½ cups cracker crumbs unless extremely fine; then use 1 ¼ cups.
Do NOT mix chocolate chips into crumb and milk mixture. They will settle to the bottom and stick to the pan, as well as fail to hold the bars together.
Can be frozen up to 3 months in airtight freezer bag or container.
