Molasses Crinkles
Cori Dodds, adapted from Betty Crocker recipe – Wichita, Kansas – 1996
Ingredients
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- ¾ cup shortening
- ¼ cup molasses
- 1 egg
- 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- ½ tsp ground cloves
- ¼ tsp salt
- Small bowl of white granulated sugar
Instructions
- Heat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Combine all dry ingredients (except white sugar). Set aside.
- Combine wet ingredients.
- Mix two bowls together.
- Roll dough into 1 in. size ball and roll each one in sugar.
- Place on NON-greased cookie sheet.
- Bake 8-9 minutes. Cookies are done when cracking (still heaped, but will flatten).
Notes
You can either use dark or light molasses – light molasses makes a spicier cookie.
Makes about 4-dozen cookies.
