Molasses Crinkles
Cori Dodds, adapted from Betty Crocker recipe - Wichita, Kansas - 1996
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- ¾ cup shortening
- ¼ cup molasses
- 1 egg
- 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- ½ tsp ground cloves
- ¼ tsp salt
- Small bowl of white granulated sugar
Heat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Combine all dry ingredients (except white sugar). Set aside.
Combine wet ingredients.
Mix two bowls together.
Roll dough into 1 in. size ball and roll each one in sugar.
Place on NON-greased cookie sheet.
Bake 8-9 minutes. Cookies are done when cracking (still heaped, but will flatten).
You can either use dark or light molasses - light molasses makes a spicier cookie.
Makes about 4-dozen cookies.
